This report was written to
answer all those questions. "Know Your Image

Rights on images are a huge
concern now days. If you get caught using "illegal
images" on your websites you could be fined very
heavily. Last I heard it was around $3,000.00 per
image. Yes, I said PER IMAGE.
Just 5 illegal images on any ONE
of your websites can cost you up to $15,000.00 bucks!
Don't think you're going to get
out of it either! Better find yourself a good
lawyer if you'd like to try getting any fines dropped -

"Merry
Christmas To Me!"
That was the title of a thread
in one of my favorite forums around Christmas time last
year. I was completely astounded by what I read.
This poor fellow had a "designer" create his website
graphics for him. The site had been up for some
time, and everything was fine.
Near Christmas of 2006, this man
got a note from one of the major stock companies telling
him that he had "illegal" images on his website.
He did everything he could to figure out what was going
on, including contacting his designer. Here the
designer had unknowingly bought some stock discs from
eBay that had illegal images on them. She didn't
know she was using illegal images, and neither did he.
It was an eye-opening thread, to say the least.
Well, guess who ended up paying
for it.
The poor guy who started the
thread, and very close to Christmas time too. If I
remember right, he had 3 images that were illegal, and
they wanted 3 grand per image. He had no way to
get out of it, so he had to pay. I don't know what
happened with the designer, but I can bet that this guy
never used her services again. And I'll bet he
told all of his friends too!
Don't Let
It Happen To You!
Why should you allow yourself to
be caught dead in the water at ANY time of the year?
You don't want to have illegal images on your websites
do you? Of course you don't.
Neither do I.
I sure as heck don't want any of
MY customers paying huge fines for illegal images
either!
So I started researching.
I already KNEW better than to
use images that were "found on the web" - and I only
used certain stock sites. But how many stock sites
could us designers use for images without causing any
grief for our customers? Which websites could we
safely use to build templates that we could resell?
I searched website after
website, read literally hundreds of End User License
Agreements, Terms Of Service Agreements and other
information... until my brain was ready to snap.
I read in forums, called stock
houses by phone, sent email after email - all to gather
and compile this information. It has taken me
months to compile this handy reference report. Yes
I'm slow, but I picked at it here and there until I
finally had something usable for ALL of us. Me
included.
